Luca Marini (he/him) is an Italian designer and researcher based in Italy and the Netherlands. His practice spans editorial, digital, and web projects, exploring the intersections between network technologies, the theory of the commons, and hacktivism. His current research examines the politics of free connectivity technologies, investigating how technically distributed, grassroots-built networks become sites for techno-communal ecosystems and repositories of non-hierarchical knowledge production.

I'm available for commissions and excited to collaborate!

Building the Mutable Net

2026 → Research Lab Series, in collaboration with Blablalab - powered by Baltan Laboratories

Building the Mutable Net is a research lab series on distributed infrastructures informed by the practices of autonomous networking of wireless community networks. Each phase tested a methodology on the alternative use of technology. The cooperative environment followed the creation of the network from its virtual functioning — by hacking routers and antennas with open-source software — to its physical prototypization, designing different devices inspired by the malleable flexibility of meshed systems and a DIY approach to present various ways a mesh node responds to collective needs, to its governance through the creation of a communal manifesto. Each of these phases operated as a shared environment oriented toward accessibility and reproducibility, feeding an ecosystem of collective literacy that accumulated into A Repository for the Mutable Net ", an open-access virtual space hosted within the network itself. Ultimately, The Mutable Net frames collectively built networks as more than alternative tools or connectivity: systems that create the conditions to envision futures in which the multitude reclaim and actively reshape their own technological environments. By transforming how connectivity is produced and redefining their relationship with information technologies at a fundamental level, the community stands at the core of the system.
