A monologue on personal growth and the digital self, focusing on the frustration of navigating augmented spaces and hyper-personalization, while connecting contemporary experiences of character creation with childhood memories of character creator menus, and reflecting on the role of representation and self-exploration in the digital realm.
The text explores the concept of the digital self through the development of two parallel narratives. The first focuses on the frustration of being unable to create a satisfying replica of oneself, examined through a critical review of the Meta Avatar Creator software. The second takes the form of a stream of consciousness that develops a personal perspective on the use of avatar-creation tools, beginning with one of my first gaming experiences, the creation of an avatar in The Sims 2 for PSP, and extending through a broader history of encounters with different avatar-creator interfaces.
The text can be found in the Parametric Truth Lab web archive or in the form of a printed booklet. The publication is designed to recall the size and graphic language of a PSP game manual, aligning with the nostalgic tone of the personal narrative, which highlights the impact of avatar-creation tools on the formation of identity.
